Why Saint Lucia Is The Paradise You're Looking For

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions and protective measures may be in place at time of travel. Please check travel advice and availability of activities at time of booking.

Stunning beaches, chocolate tours, snacking on green figs… Saint Lucia, we love you so!

Saint Lucia’s abundant natural beauty and rich cultural history makes it a favourite destination for the well-heeled traveller looking to get away from it all or to throw themselves into every single possible activity and adventure.

In between spa experiences (try a dip in the hot tub at Jade Mountain’s Kai en Ciel spa, or a treetop massage at Rainforest Spa at Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort), there are sulphur springs soaks and mud baths, and hikes up the Pitons.

You can go back in time with a stroll through the old capital of Saint Lucia, Soufrière, or take to the sea to spot seahorses at Anse Cochon (perfect for snorkelers, you’ll also find starfish and sea urchins aplenty). There’s no shortage of discoveries to make in Saint Lucia - about the island, the locals and yourself.

Here are some of the fabulous ways to get to know the local scene in Saint Lucia:

For delicious local fare: Fedos: New Development, Soufrière, St. Lucia

For unassuming yet delicious local fare, head to Fedos in the Soufrière - run by Evelyn, it’s where the locals go for grub like chicken or beef roti, grilled fish and shrimps in garlic butter, all washed down with local Piton beer.

For market wares and fresh fruit: Castries Market

This market is an elaborately colourful destination, packed with vibrant exotic fruits and spices (there are also artisan’s wares, but the food is where it’s at here) and the freshest seafood and shellfish: barracuda, snapper, lobster, lionfish. Try the other local dish, green figs, aka unripe bananas. Custard apples are another delicacy.

For chocolate indulgence: Fond Doux Chocolate Tours

Fond Doux is a 250-year-old, 135-acre working plantation in Soufrière now known for its luxury cottages, spa and impressive rainforest views. It’s also a must-see for the keen chocolate connoisseur (and taster). Enjoy a cocoa plantation or chocolate making tour, where you’ll be taken through the chocolate-making process. There are plenty of opportunities for sampling, too.

For the adventurer: Get off the beaten track on a cycling trail

Saint Lucia is an island of relaxation and adventure. Spend your days like a local and then get off the beaten track to enjoy Saint Lucia’s natural beauty.

A great way to explore the island is with a jungle biking adventure. Book in a cycle ride through the 12-mile Anse Mamin plantation, which can accommodate both the experienced pro and the novice cyclist as you take in French colonial ruins of a church and sugar mill and enjoy the wild vegetation and birdlife. If you’re after the bird’s eye point of view, you can always zipline through rainforest trees.
